Eros in Astronomy
433 Eros was discovered on Aug. 13, 1898, by Gustav Witt, director of the Urania Observatory in Berlin, and independently on the same day by Auguste H.P. Charlois at Nice, France. Less than two weeks later, Adolf J. Berberich computed that the object's orbit brought it well inside the orbit of Mars, making it the first-known near-Earth asteroid. [1] It was name after the god of love in Greek mythology, the son of Aphrodite (Venus), the goddess of goddess of sexual love and beauty, and Ares (Mars) the ancient Greek god of war, battlelust and courage. It was the first known asteroid to pass inside the orbit of Mars. It has an orbital period of 1 3/4 years and is 22 kilometres in diameter. Its physical closeness to Mars mirrors its astrological function: bridging raw instinct with higher passion and conscious love.

Eros in mythology
In mythology, before the gods of Olympus ruled from their lofty thrones, there was Eros – the primal god of love, born out of Chaos, the original void. In the earliest traditions of Greek mythology, Eros was not the playful cherub later associated with Valentine’s Day, but a sacred and potent force: the phallic, masculine principle of creation itself. He embodied the raw, generative power that first stirred the cosmos into existence.
Later myths portrayed Eros as the Son of Ares (Mars) and Aphrodite (Venus), symbolising the fusion of passion and beauty, desire and grace. His love affair with Psyche became a powerful allegory for the soul’s journey through love, loss, and ultimate transformation. Psyche and Eros’ offsprings was named Bliss, Pleasure, and Ecstasy – symbols of the enduring fruits and soul-mated union.
Eros in Astrology
In astrology, Eros functions as a higher octave of Mars, refining instinctual sexual drives into pathways of spiritual illumination through passionate connection. It points toward where, how, and why we feel passion, experience desire, and are drawn toward transformational experiences.
Unlike planets, which express many layers of meaning, the asteroids each focus more narrowly. Demetra George and Douglas Bloch define Eros’s essential principle as "vitality and passion." Zipporah Dobyns associates Eros with "romantic love," underlining its role in emotional intimacy. J. Lee Lehman describes Eros as ruling "romance and passionate attachment," emphasising that Eros symbolises not just sexual drive (as Sappho does) but the mental and emotional conceptualiaation of attraction. Jacob Schwartz captures Eros’s energy as "sexuality, eroticism, passionate romance, and being 'turned on.'"
Astrologically, Eros represents more than physical attraction – it is the emotional and creative magnetism that compels us toward union, transformation, and fulfilment. Beyond sexuality, Eros defines “whatever turns you on” – whatever excites and arouses life itself.
In natal chart, Eros acts as an indicator of passion and erotic magnetism, sexual preference and style, vital energy and emotional ignition points.
The Eros personality is often marked by a deep need to continuously recreate the thrill of love, the ecstatic merging with another or with life’s passions.
If Eros is in a challenging aspects, it can describes challenges with sexual vitality, frustrated or obsessive passion, depletion of emotional energy, until the individual finds a conscious way to channel passion constructively.
In synastry, or chart comparison, is a practice of superimposing two or more horoscopes and examining their interactions. Eros aspect to another person’s planets or points indicate powerful sexual compatibility and emotional magnetism depending on the principle that the particular planet. When it touch another person’s Psyche - the soul’s path toward love, in mythology, psyche journey through trials to reunite with Eros mirrors the soul’s evolution through relational love, its contact with Eros contacts in synastry could highlight profound intuitive bonds – the potential for true soul-mate connections.
Eros remains one of the more recent asteroids to be seriously investigated by astrologers. Preliminary insights can be found in Demetra George and Douglas Bloch’s Astrology for Yourself, and a full ephemeris is included in the second edition of Asteroid Goddesses.
Case Study: Eros in Libra in 8th house Semisextile Vertex
To bring these ideas into practice, let’s explore a specific chart placement:
In this case, Eros is placed in Libra in the 8th house, forming a semisextile aspest to the Vertex in Virgo in the 7th house (tight orb or less than 1 degree)
Eros in Libra: Erotic passion is expressed through the pursuit of beauty, harmony, romance, and relational equality. Love must feel elegant, mutual, and emotionally balanced.
8th House placement: Passion is not light or surface-level; it seeks profound emotional merging, intimacy, and psychological depth. Love and sexuality are experiences of transformation, not mere pleasure.
Semisextile to Vertex in Virgo (7th House): This subtle but persistent connection suggests that fated partnerships (Vertex) will challenge and refine how passion is lived out. Relationships must satisfy both the need for soulful connection (Eros) and the Virgoan drive toward humility, healing, and service within partnership (Vertex in Virgo).
This alignment shows someone whose erotic and emotional life (Eros) cannot be separated from their destiny in relationships (Vertex). Encounters with others will force the individual to balance Libra’s ideals of love with Virgo’s call for service and self-improvement, ultimately leading to relationships that both ignite the soul and ground the spirit.
Eros forms a BiSeptile the Sun – In Synastry
The story between Eros BiSeptile the Sun in Synastry.
In synastry, when one person's Eros forms a BiSeptile to another person's Sun, the connection carries an unmistakable sense of soul-level inspiration and fated passion. Septile-based aspects, including the BiSeptile, are associated with mystical links, spiritual growth, and the activation of deep imagination and longing. The BiSeptile, specifically, marks the subtle moment when the inner longings of the soul begin to exteriorise — when the quiet currents of destiny start to shape visible paths.
Eros in Synastry
With Eros BiSeptile the Sun, passion is not merely physical; it stirs from an unconscious wellspring of dreams, ideals, and emotional fantasies. The Eros individual feels magnetically drawn to the Sun person's vitality and core essence, often experiencing them as a living embodiment of passion, beauty, and creative life force. This connection may begin quietly, with a subtle but persistent sense of fascination, evolving over time into a profound emotional and spiritual awakening.
The relationship often inspires both individuals to surrender to the pull of destiny — weaving together longing, imagination, and the search for transcendent love. If honoured and trusted, this aspect can become the foundation for a love that transcends ordinary experience — a sacred, living work of art, created not through force but through following the soul's quiet call.
When Eros stirs, it awakens the memory that love is not just a feeling — it is the life force itself, calling us to merge, to create, and to become more than we are.
In the real world, this is often how a Sun–Eros BiSeptile connection may feel as it unfolds over time — a quiet, soulful journey from inspiration to embodiment.

The relationship may begin quietly — often with an unexplainable sense of "there’s something special about this person."
It is not the loud spark of attraction, but the soft awakening of soul memory.

Emergence of Soul Longing into Conscious Experience
As the bond deepens, the invisible starts to seek form.
You may feel an increasing pull to externalise the inner connection — through shared dreams, creative collaboration, or moments of profound emotional vulnerability.
Rather than clashing with reality, the relationship invites patience and surrender — trusting that what was once silent inspiration will find its own way into visible, living form.
There can be moments of yearning — a sense that something just beyond reach is calling you forward — but this longing itself is part of the soul's growth.
If both individuals remain open to the mysterious unfolding, the bond deepens into a spiritual journey of shared becoming.

Integration of Inspiration and Manifestation
If nurtured with patience and awareness, the relationship evolves into something rare:
Love is no longer only dreamed — it is lived.
